Woman arrested for hate-motivated assault, spraying 'noxious substance' at victim

Toronto police have arrested a woman accused of a hate-motivated assault in which she allegedly uttered homophobic slurs and sprayed a noxious substance at a victim onboard a TTC subway car.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Valentina Ponte Diaz of Toronto, is accused of assaulting the victim on Oct. 21. Officers responded to the incident around 1:15 a.m. at Bloor-Yonge Station.

Police said both the suspect and victim were onboard a subway car when the suspect approached the victim. After allegedly uttering the slurs and spraying the victim with a noxious substance, which was not identified by police, the suspect fled the scene.
